I saw this YSL June Box Bag online the other day, and man, it looked sharp. But then I saw the price tag – whoa, way out of my league! YSL bags can go from like 675 bucks to over 7,000! So, I thought, why not try to make one myself?
First, I gathered my materials. I needed some good quality leather – that’s what those fancy bags are made of, right? I found some scraps at a local craft store. Not exactly ostrich leather like that one $7,100 bag, but it’ll do. I also needed a sturdy zipper, some lining fabric, and some tools. I already had most of the tools – a leather punch, needles, thread, and a cutting mat.
Next, I started working on the pattern. Now, I’m no designer, but I looked at a bunch of pictures of the June Box Bag online. I sketched out a rough design on some paper, figuring out the dimensions and how the pieces would fit together. It was a bit of trial and error, but I eventually got something that looked somewhat like the real thing.
Then came the cutting. I carefully traced my pattern onto the leather and cut out each piece. This part took some time – you gotta be precise with leather, or it’ll look messy. I also cut out the lining fabric, making sure it matched the leather pieces.
After cutting, I started assembling the bag. I punched holes along the edges of the leather pieces where they needed to be sewn together. Then, I hand-stitched everything, using a strong, waxed thread. This was the most time-consuming part, but also kind of relaxing. It’s like putting together a puzzle, but with a needle and thread.
- Step 1: I sewed the side panels to the front and back pieces.
- Step 2: I attached the bottom piece, creating the boxy shape.
- Step 3: I carefully installed the zipper along the top edge.
- Step 4: I sewed in the lining, making sure it was neat and tidy.
Finally, I added the finishing touches. I made a simple strap out of the same leather and attached it to the sides of the bag. I even tried to make a little YSL-like logo by stitching some gold thread onto a small piece of leather and gluing it to the front. It’s not perfect, but it adds a little something, you know?
The Result
It took me a few days, working on and off, but I finally finished my homemade June Box Bag. It’s definitely not a perfect replica – the stitching isn’t as precise, and the materials aren’t as high-end. But you know what? It looks pretty darn good! And it cost me a fraction of the price of a real YSL.
I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and I’m pretty happy with it. It holds all my essentials, and I’ve even gotten a few compliments on it. People are surprised when I tell them I made it myself.
So, there you have it. That’s how I made my own version of a YSL June Box Bag. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot about working with leather. I’m thinking, what is my next bag is gonna be?
