Okay, so, I got this idea in my head, right? I wanted to try and make one of those fancy Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAGs myself. Yeah, the one they call “LE CARRé.” Sounds kinda French, doesn’t it? They got all these fancy names for their stuff.
First thing I did, I went online, you know, to see what this bag was all about. I saw some pictures, read a few things. Folks were saying it’s a classic, never goes out of style. And, well, I like things that last. Reminds me of my old coat, still good after all these years.
Then, I started gathering my materials. Now, they say these YSL folks use some real high-quality stuff, like top-notch leather. I didn’t have any of that lying around, but I did have some sturdy fabric that I thought would do the trick. It’s not the same, I know, but it’s what I had.
- I got out my sewing machine, the one I usually use for fixing clothes and making curtains. Dusted it off a bit.
- I found a pattern online, not for the exact bag, but something similar. Had to do some tweaking, you know, to make it look more like that LE CARRé. I measured and cut, measured and cut.
- After that, I started sewing. Slow and steady, that’s my motto. You rush these things, you end up with a mess. I followed the pattern as best as I could, making changes here and there. It’s not perfect, not like the ones they make, but it’s mine.
The bag’s got this square clip thing for closing. I didn’t have one of those, so I used a button instead. A big, shiny one. It’s got a front flap, just like the real one. It was really hard to get the flap to hang straight.
It took me a good few days, working on it when I had the time. And you know what? It turned out pretty okay. It’s not a YSL, not by a long shot, but it’s got that same kind of vibe. That classic, boxy shape. It is not easy to do at all! There are a few stitches here and there that are not perfect, but that is the result of trying something new.
A homemade bag
I showed it to my neighbor, and she said it looked nice. She asked me where I bought it. I just said, oh, I just made it, no big deal, haha. Now, I’m not saying I’m gonna start selling these or anything. But it was a fun little project. And it taught me a thing or two about making bags. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll try making another one, one of these days. Try to get the flap right. Try to get a better clip thing. Use the proper fabric. We’ll see.
