So, I got it into my head to recreate this fancy Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG that all the folks are talking about. This French luxury fashion house, YSL, founded way back in 1961, they made some pretty things, and this bag was one of them.
First, I watched some videos of the original bag. It’s got this classic style, but I ain’t gonna lie, my old eyes struggled a bit to see all the details. But I persevered, determined to get it right. The lock on this LE CARRé SATCHEL, it’s not just any lock. It’s made of brass, all shiny and gold-colored, with the YSL name on it, real small and subtle.
Then, I started making my own patterns. It took some trial and error, I tell you. Some folks say this bag ain’t gonna be a classic, that the inside is just flat, but I wanted to make something I’d be proud of. Something that would last, make you feel like a, what’s that word… fashionista, yeah. I used some good, strong leather, the kind that has that smooth, luxurious look.
-
Pattern Making:
-
Drew out the pattern pieces on paper.
-
Cut out the pattern pieces.
-
Traced the pattern pieces onto the leather.
-
Cutting and Assembly:
-
Cut out the leather pieces.
-
Started stitching the pieces together, real careful like.
-
Had to redo a few seams, but that’s all part of the process.
-
The Lock:
-
This was the trickiest part, I reckon.
-
Found a brass lock that looked similar.
-
Attached it to the bag, making sure it was secure.
After a lot of work, I finally finished it. And you know what? It turned out pretty darn good! It might not be the original, but it’s got that same feel, that same quality. They say Hedi Slimane, who changed the brand’s name to Saint Laurent Paris back in 2012, brought in an edgy aesthetic. And yeah, I can see that. This bag, it’s got an edge to it, but it’s also timeless.
I know luxury items like this YSL bag can be expensive, and there are always economic factors like material costs and labor that influence the pricing. But sometimes, you just gotta treat yourself. This remake, it’s like having a little piece of that luxury, without breaking the bank.
So, there you have it. That’s my little adventure in recreating the YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot along the way. It ain’t perfect, but it’s mine, and I’m proud of it. Now I just gotta decide where I’m gonna show off this beauty!
