This here watch, the Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Reverso Tribute Chronograph, you know, it’s a real fancy one. They call it the “original order.” Sounds important, don’t it? My grandson, he’s all into these things, he says it’s a good one to have. Says it’s like money in the bank, but you wear it on your wrist.
He showed me a picture. It’s got two faces, this watch. You flip it around like a pancake. One side is all plain and simple, for when you’re just doin’ your chores, I guess. The other side, oh boy, it’s got all sorts of little dials and hands. Looks like the inside of a clock my old Pa used to have. He says it’s for timing things, like how fast a horse runs, or maybe how long it takes to boil an egg. Don’t rightly know why you’d need a watch for that, but these young folks, they like their gadgets.
Fancy Name, Fancy Watch
He kept going on about how it’s a “Reverso” – that’s a funny word. Sounds like something you’d do to a shirt, turn it inside out. And he said it’s made by some fancy company, “Jay-ger Le-Cool-truh.” Sounds French to me. Probably costs more than my whole darn house. He told me the name means “I turn around.” Must be from somewhere that talks the way we used to.
He says people collect these things. Like those stamps I used to save, but these are way more expensive. And get this, he says some folks even buy fake ones! Can you believe it? Paying good money for something that ain’t real. Like buying a plastic chicken and expecting it to lay eggs. Makes no sense to me.
But this one, this Reverso Tribute Chronograph, he says it’s the real deal. It’s something special. Maybe one day, if I win the lottery, I’ll get him one. Though I reckon he’d rather have a new tractor. Young folks these days, always wanting something new.
It’s a Keeper, They Say
My boy says these Jaeger-LeCoultre watches, they hold their value. That means they’re worth a lot of money, even after you’ve worn them for a while. He says it’s a “good investment.” Like planting seeds, I suppose, but instead of corn, you get money.
- He says it’s because they’re made good. Not like that cheap stuff they sell down at the five-and-dime.
- And they’re made by that fancy French company, so that makes ’em worth more.
- Plus, not everyone can get one. That makes folks want ’em even more, I guess.
He was saying that if you only had a couple of watches, a Reverso is a good one to have. For what, I don’t know. I can tell the time just fine with my old clock on the wall. But he likes to have it all. A watch for fancy times, and one for regular times, I guess.
Turning Heads, I Reckon
He showed me some other ones, too. One had a picture of the moon on it. He said it was called a “Moonphase.” I said, “Well, I can see the moon just fine outside my window.” He just laughed. Another one was real thin, he called it “Ultra Thin.” Said it was the best one there is, but you got to be careful with them thin things, they break easy. He was going on about some “Polaris Chronograph,” said they never get it right, but I stopped listening by then. Too many fancy names. I can tell you how to time things right, just watch how long it takes me to bake bread. Perfect every time.
Some folks like gold. This one watch he showed me, it was all gold. Shiny and bright. Looked heavy, though. And complicated. He said it was inspired by some old way of making watches, from the “1990s.” That ain’t that long ago, is it? Feels like yesterday I was chasing chickens around the yard.
Anyway, this Jaeger-LeCoultre JLC Reverso Tribute Chronograph original order, it’s a mouthful, ain’t it? It’s a fancy watch for fancy folks. But my grandson, he loves it. And if he’s happy, then I’m happy. Even if I don’t understand half of what he’s talking about. Now, where did I put my knitting needles…?
